Now receiving multiple calls for gas in the area.  Reports of a work crew in the area, may have hit a high-pressure gas main.

Battalion 54: Box 9822, we have a high-pressure gas main cut by a construction company opposite the address 87-55 Commonwealth Blvd.  Can you have the utility company respond forwith.

BC54: Situation is Doubtful, we do require the special units.  It's a 2 inch plastic pipe.

BC54: Box 9822, continuing to use All-Hands.  We have a fog line stretched and operating.  ConEd supervisor is also on scene.

BC54: Box 9822, the gas leak is in the street approximately 70 ft opposite 87-55 Commonwealth Blvd, it's 2 story peaked roof private dwelling.  Some of the occupancies have been checked with evacuations, I'll get back to you with their addresses..  Also L150 used their meters to check the sewers with no readings in the sewers.

1 - street
2 - alley
3 - rear yard
4 - similar detached

BC54: Box 9822, ConEd crews are on the scene and they're attempting to stop the leak now.

Division 14: Box 9822, ConEd has stopped the leak.  The 54 will be standing by with 2 and 2, E304, E301, TL162, L150, and Division 14 will be 10-8.  Under Control.

  Fog line is a hose line operating from a nozzle that breaks the water up into very finely water droplets. It would be used to disapate the gas vapors.
 
Bill, the fog line is used rather than the straight stream because the straight stream can conduct the electric current back to the firefighters on the hose line if they are working at an electric burnout in a manhole.

You're right Frank. I took it as natural gas vapors, and didn't think about electrical power. I would guess in those manholes there are plenty of voltage that could follow that flowing solid stream. Obviously, the Fog Stream is the way to go.
