On this date in 1983 241 servicemen were murdered in a truck bombing in Beruit. This included 220 Marines, 18 members of the Navy, and three soldiers. TNT measured to be 21,000 pounds was used. The Marine sentries were hampered by archaic rules of engagement, no magazine in the weapon, no round in the chamber. This was the largest single day death toll in the Marines since Iwo Jima. No retaliation occurred because of political in-fighting, even in those days politicians were assholes. A hand salute to those who proved "Freedom ain't Free!
