In the aftermath of 9/11 a classified ad appeared in the Village Voice from filmmakers Steven Rosenbaum and Pamela Yoder: "Do you have video footage from the week of 9/11?". Over 100 people responded with more than 500 hours of video. The couple used some in the 2002 documentary "7 days in September".
Most of this video along with greater than 700 hours of behind-the-scenes footage of the creation of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum has never been seen.
Now, all of this archive- the largest video collection of 9/11 known- has been acquired by the New York Public Library. Plans call for this trove to be available at the library in two years and online around 2030. Interestingly, the team believes that there is a lot of records out there still to be discovered.
