Wasnt TL 14 the first Tower unit in the FDNY in the 70's, i believe there is a book written by a firefighter, about his time at TL14 in the war years.

You are correct. TL 1 and 14 were the very first. And for those that might be interested, I believe you can read a little about those ALF Tower Ladders on "My Younger Buff Years". It starts at the bottom of page 20, Post # 299. Then onto page 21.

I also believe there are a few photos of these rigs on this site.

I believe that T.C.U. 732 had an ALF rearmount which eventually was assigned to 176 Truck.

Thanks "r1smokeater" for posting those pictures. I was hoping you would. And yes "69mets", I seem to remember a ALF Rearmount that FDNY had. Only one right ?

I don't know for sure if there was only one, but it's the only one that I can recall seeing. Unfortunately, some of the stuff from the late 60's and early 70's is starting to get a little blurry in my mind (probably due to too many 10-26's ... LOL).

It's in the FAJ book "American LaFrance Apparatus" as a 1969 rearmount #AP-6904, was a "maroon" demo taken by FDNY assigned as TCU-732, repainted the regular red reassigned to L-176, 52, 166 and spare.......

I get a little "Blurry" there myself "69mets". I don't know if its drinking too much "Kool Aid" or if it's too many 10-26s. So lets just forget it, and throw that question out. I think that's the best thing to do. Those "Golden Years" just aren't as shiney as they used to be.

Good thing we got young guys like "r1smokeater" to help us out. He's a good guy and hasn't reached his Golden Years yet. Thanks Jamie.
