Wonder if anyone has any additional info. on this ?
At about 0400 recently a phone call was made for a fire at 3150 Perry Ave.in the Norwood section of DaBronx.79/37 were first due. This run turned out to be a false alarm. When the members returned to quarters on Briggs Ave. they found that several of their cars had been broken into. The only things taken were FDNY placards.

There have been a ton of break ins into firehouses here on S.I., run comes in, company goes out, and stuff is missing from the house.

I vaguely remember this happening in the Norfolk Fire Dept. a long time ago. It got to a point where the off duty fellas would come in and hang out during various times of the tour. I believe a few skags got caught red-handed by the off duty members while the Companies were out, the problem ceased.

that might explain why i saw a FDNY placard on a brand new $60K mercedes SUV today

UPDATE- They have a video of a woman leaving a pay phone right after the false alarm was called in from that phone. The camera was on a building near 266 E. 204th St. which is only a few blocks from 79/37. It would appear that they knew just what they wanted (FDNY Placards).

Great News Mike. I hope they nail them. You got to be pretty smart to try and beat the law today. "Guess that counts me out for being a criminal anytime soon".

All the numbers on these placards are computerized, FM's can check to see it a particular placard is stolen. Due to the parking problem in NY I'm sure these bring good money.

A pay phone ... I didn't know there were any of those left ...

The sad fact is that BROTHERS are sustaining damage to their own vehicles because these POS think that these UNION placards are worth anything outside of a FireHouse parking area......i live in the city & just got done paying my latest expired meter  fine even though i had my up to date UFOA placard as well as other FDNY insignia on my Tahoe......hopefully , just as if someone sold bogus drugs ....the buyers of these stolen placards who get ticketed will go back to the sellers for retribution.

I find the cards in Midtown all the time, always give a call to the FM when it looks stolen..

guys you have to make your own placards. put fdny, your firehouse numbers and maybe your patch on a piece of paper and make 60 copies.  write  your on duty any questions please contact housewatch. i never use my official placard. a broken window is alot of moolah to replace if you do not have full coverage.also give a heads up to nypd and the brownies that u are using these homemade placards

Didn't someone recently do that and it ended up in the papers because he was parking by his apartment??
