"Doing-it-local" as I know it, is a One Man News team. A guy who covers many of the fire, police and EMS incidents in the Bridgeport, Ct area. His only income as I know comes from donations of individuals and perhaps some of the local fire and police unions for his cost. There is also a private ambulance service (AMR) which covers most of that area and I assume they contribute as well.
I believe this individual has been doing this for several years now. He is out there in all kinds of weather or time of day. He is well respected by the members of those departments for the job he does. I believe he has also been provided with a local police radio (Bridgeport) to keep him informed of the action throughout the city. That just doesn't happen to civilians these days.
