Heard over EMS Brooklyn North "Car 40", Definitely could've misheard, but someone else asked me what it was.

Only thing I was able to find about it was 40A, 40B, and 40C during 9/11, but even still everybody wasn't 100% sure what it was then.

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what it could have been.

At 9/11, the 40 cars were for SOC. Downey (Rescue) was 40A, Chief of HAZMAT I believe 40B, Chief of Marine 40C. That said, these aren't the designations today as SOC are all 11 cars. Also definitely not the Queens boro, which is Car 9.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, what I referred to was "Car4-0" of EMS back in the day which was the EMS QBC, not FD Car 40.

Queens Boro. Commander =Car 9. 9-9 is the old Borough Preliminary under the old Bells or Telegraph system for Queens.
Squad 8 in Staten Island = Sq-8. 8-8 is the old Borough Preliminary under the old Bells or Telegraph System for Richmond LATER Staten Island.
"There is a method to the madness" Old traditions never die in the FDNY. When I was appointed in Jan. 1973 the bell or telegraph was still used and later was used part time certain days. I believe that the last time the "Bells" were used was when the N.Y. Archdiocese Roman Catholic Cardinal died in 1974 or 1975. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
