Information from South Metro Fire on Facebook

At 1:11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, SMFR responded to a reported structure fire at 7120 S. Jordan Rd. in Centennial. Responding units saw a plume of smoke and upon arrival at the Waste Connections transfer station, flames were visible inside. The suppression system was actively flowing water and slowing the spread of fire, but the deep-seated heat continued to burn. Engine 42 established a water supply to Tower 45, and Engine 31 connected to a second fire hydrant, then supplied the building sprinkler system.
A skilled operator used a wheel loader to scoop up and remove burning trash from the structure while Tower 45 used an aerial stream to fully extinguish the material. The operation took about 3 hours to complete, and thankfully no injuries occurred. The SMFR Fire Marshal’s Office was unable to determine what caused this fire, but it serves as a good reminder to never discard batteries, electronics, lighters, or household chemicals in the trash since those items are known to spark fires like this one.
Thank you to Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and Arapahoe Rescue Patrol, Inc. for assisting.
