Over the past several days the Chicago area has been inidated by heavy rains. On Saturday in a 24 hour period the O'Hare area (official measuring site) received 6.63 inches, in a four day period upwards of 12 inches fell from the skies. Chicago firefighters assisted in the evacuation of almost 400 families from single family dwellings to apartment buildings on the city's North side. In addition firefighters from many suburbs were involved in rescues of people trapped by rising floodwaters. This included Addison, Skokie, Riverside, Des Plaines and Franklin Park. In addition heavy flooding hit NW Indiana again resulting in many FF assisted rescues. The situation is still in a state of flux.
