Seeing the snorkel in use at the 4-11 today got me thinking about the new snorkels that were talked about for the squads.  There was a lot of discussion about that a while ago but I haven't heard anything since.  Does anybody know what the status of them is?

Rosenbauer (sp) had a contract with CFD but after 2 years CFD canx. Lawyers got involved, now the story is 3 units next year, units are 15+ held together with duct tape and bungie cords!

Only Snorkel left in active service
That's in addition to the 3 that are assigned to the Squads correct?
Correct. The above rig is 6-6-1, the CFD's reserve snorkel, often used at large jobs as a water tower.

In the November-December, 2015 issue of Fire Apparatus Journal, Jim Regan wrote in the Chicago column " THE FOUR COMPLETE SETS OF SNORKEL SQUADS FROM ROSENBAUER ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS WITH FINAL ISSUES BEING WORKED ON.  THERE IS NO DELIVERY DATE SET FOR THESE RIGS".

With all respect to Mr Regan that sentence was probably in an issue last year, and maybe the year before. FAJ should get someone with more info than him, he gives nothing in that column. I made a joke once that the Cubs would win the WS before we get replacements, almost happened. I was also under the impression that it was 3 sets, they just re-habbed Squad 7 at O"Hare after a cracked frame among other issues.

6-6-1, Reserve Snorkel is a 1982 Seagrave Pierce 85' with a 1500GPM pump, stored @ Engine 35's house on N Damen. It has no specific running card assignments, it is s/c only on any type incident, even a still and box, FDNY 10-75, as requested. I THINK the pump has been dis-abled.

Is that just a plain old water tower or does it carry truck Equiptment or be used as a spare truck

Philadelphia still has two Snorkels in service as front line ladder companies, Snorkel 2 in Olde City and Snorkel 28 in Northeast Philadelphia.  They are currently evaluating possible replacement devices and looked at the Rosenbauer T-Rex recently.  Smeal bought the Snorkel product line when American LaFrance went belly up and are building Squrts and Snorkels in Lancaster, PA.

I forgot that they had bought the product line after American went into bankruptcy.  Do you know if they've actually sold and delivered any units yet?

"Rosenbauer (sp) had a contract with CFD but after 2 years CFD canx. Lawyers got involved, now the story is 3 units next year".  Does this mean Rosenbauer is still building the rigs, or did the contract go to another manufacturer?
