Don’t need a Fire expert as Commissioner, ex Safir, Scarpetta and VonEssen! But who is Chief of Department is!
It would be great to have someone who knows how the Department works, Adams has shown he’s not afraid to go outside the city so who knows .

To be honest, hiring from the ranks has never really worked out. Interviewing chiefs after 9/11 some have stated that Commissioner Scopetta was very instrumental in rebuilding the FDNY. It's not so much having firefighting knowledge, but more of administrating skill sets. The stories I heard from chiefs was remarkable how he engineered the rebuild. Also, I might add, Safir was very helpful advancing the FDNY into the computer and technical age, back then chiefs were doing fire reports on typewriters with carbon paper. He upgraded all firehouses with state of the art computers and fax machines, provided bunker gear, added a 5th man to 60 engine companies, in just two short years.

If Ms Brown (FDNY Legal Counsel) becomes Commissioner, as indicated in the Post article, what are the expectations of a lawyer running the department?

If you go back in the FDNY history you would see that recent outside the dept commissioners were lawyers.

According to the Chief newspaper, on page 6 the continuation of article on Nigro retirement which starts on page 2, there are two finalists: Ms. Brown and Robert Tucker a lawyer, former dispatcher and secretary for the FDNY Foundation. First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh would step in on an acting basis if no one is selected by the time Mr. Nigro retires on 2/16/2022.

Maybe he's testing the water with an Acting FC who is female. Sorry I am skeptical about selecting the best candidates, or most qualified - but these are 100% politically driven. That doesn't mean an appointment is bad. I just believe there are reasons, most likely political, that appointments are carefully timed or delayed. It sure doesn't mean he can't find good candidates.

According to an aide - at yesterday’s staff chief’s meeting Kavanagh told them she is staying on as acting commissioner and then back to first deputy under the new commissioner.
Does Adams not know how bad she is? She “allegedly” had an affair with a married chief. His wife did confront her at a promotion ceremony. Ceremonial had to step in. That’s the one everyone knows about. There are two other alleged ones.
She promoted two unqualified friends to deputy commissioners without asking Nigro. She never posted those positions so others could apply for them. She worked for deBlasio and continued reporting to him when she got to MetroWreck. She was immediately promoted over and over again with zero experience. She was in charge of the last recruitment campaign that failed miserably (Covid happened and everyone forgot about it). The unions asked Adams to get rid of her.
How is she getting away with all of this?

Been suspicious of her since she replaced BT. I sure it is a full bore crap storm and it will be interesting to see how much damaged is caused before the new mayor pulls the plug, if that even happens.JMHO
