At cave ins collapses etc when a Vaccum Truck is requested does the FDNY have one? I have heard them asking Con Ed for one and in this case is the truck escorted to the scene? Does the truck get dispatched by Con Ed than just travel normally to the location?

FDNY does not have a vacuum truck, only Con-Ed.

The Dispatcher will call for the truck whenever it's needed and it's assigned on certain signals like 10-60.

With a collapse/confined space job a vaccum truck is used much like the utility companies use them everyday; to quickly remove soil, water, etc from a space to allow crews to work or in a rescue situation can also free some one. In certain cases this can be a good option for crews and beats the hell out of having to set up a "bucket brigade" with just 5 gallon bucket at a time! Like any tool does not work in every case, but is a great tool in the toolbox.

The Vacuum truck on Collapse's came from the Carplunk and Reilly fatal fire.  A review of the incident, thought that the vacuum truck might have helped in removing the debris.  So now they added the truck to response other then cave in's.

I don't think its been tried or used at a collapse yet.
