Congratulations to 68jk09

Thank you Chief Jack K, aka "68jk09", for those 10,000 plus post.

Your willingness to share your knowledge of the FDNY with us is greatly appreciated.

Let me also add this.
There have been many times when some of us might visit an FDNY firehouse. Whenever we happen to mention the name, Chief Jack K., the response has ALWAYS been "he is one of the BEST".

Some guys have told us they were lucky to have worked the job with him. Others tell us they "wished" that they had worked the job with him.

They don't just give a reputation like that away. Most citizens view firefighters as good people willing to help anyone in their time of need. And of course that is basically true.
But it is also true that generally speaking firefighters can be pretty tough on each other, especially if somebody happens to drop the ball. Firefighters don't just get a reputation like Chief Jack K., unless it is earned through hard work. You can't buy that respect. It must be earned.

Therefore we on this site are very lucky to have an individual like Retired Chief Jack K., "68jk09" with us. I also consider Chief Jack K., to be a good friend.

Thank you "manhattan" for pointing this out to us as well.

Interesting...i had not noticed that number....glad to be a part of this site.... when i was still working i did not really care for the advent of computers in the Company Office as i was used to pen & paper ( & carbon paper & whiteout) as well as the original manual typewriter but i did get to like the newer electric model we got around 2000 (i think) after learning not to bang the keys.....when everything at work relied strictly on the computer i had no choice but to use it.....i only got my own home computer around 2008 but i did not use it much & was not at all familiar with much on it....after i Retired in 2009 i had more time on my hands & went on & started following posts as well as  posting myself on "The Rant" starting with my good Friend RET BC Howie Carlson's Funeral info (Dec 2009)......in 2010 i found out about this site "nycfire.net" & joined as well as joining "FDNY's Forgotten"....mostly i repost my stuff on all three since 2010 to share with all.....on The Rant there was some kind of an issue & all post counts went back to zero at some point & i don't think they count every post as after looking today i am only up to under 300 but Forgotten has over 10,000.... who knows why?... i am not really counting ...i just enjoy reading things from others & sharing current info about The Job as well as FDNY History & some occasional other info...i am glad too have made so many Friends here including several that i have met face to face & shared good times with on several occasions ....aside from the FD sites ...email itself has connected me with many former friends from both on & off the Job that i may not have had the chance to communicate with without cyberspace.... after 8 to 9 yrs of dabbling on the sites i still use 2 finger hunt & peck but i do know my way around the computer much more so than i did when i was still working...... funny thing was in High School there was some typing classes but i spent most of my time daydreaming about getting OTJ....much later when i realized i was going to get Promoted to LT in 1987 i spent $50.00 to sign up for a typing class at St John's U. ....it consisted of 6 classes in the evening 1 each week... turns out most of the class was women returning to the work force who basically knew typing & were only brushing up... the instructor went with the flow at their more experienced pace & i finished it not learning any thing new at all ...... later on when computers came into the FDNY they gave mandatory classes  which i attended expecting to gain some expertise ...i attended several as required but as with the typing classes it seemed almost all in the class had experience...i would sit at my station & be doing the exercise's & the guys on either side would be done & i would be staring at the keyboard trying to figure the next move & a guy next to me would lean over & say "do this" & reach over & hit this or that & i was up to speed but i realized even though i caught up with the others i still did not know how to navigate...after awhile i started raising my hand & asking the instructor for help....most times they came over & said "do this" & hit a few strange keys & i was completed ....BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON... slowly with help in the FH from other Officers i learned to complete reports on the original old boxy terminals with the blue screen using what was referred to as "The McDermott" program (named after CPT McDermott who put it together) ....well after feeling comfortable (& doing some extensive work on it.. one being the entire Fire Report on the McCauley Culkin Fourth Alarm while in BN*9) they got rid of the now familiar to me McD. program & i was almost back to square one....during my 10 yrs in BN*46 i was fortunate to have very patient & computer savvy BN*FFs to help but as i said before .....today i am much more comfortable working around the keyboard due to daily trips into cyberspace with my Friends on these sites....& Thank You to the Bendick's for keeping this great site up & running & Thank You to the Regulars who provide very interesting current info on jobs & day to day goings on ....& certainly FD History that should kept alive.

Chief; Congrats on the Big Numbers ! And, Thank You, Sir, for sharing your Experience & Insight here.  8)

Congratulations on 10,000 posts Chief. You put Willie to shame. Thank you for all your knowledge and expertise that you have shared with us and thank you for all you do for those of us who attend the get togethers.

Again, a fine example of one of the many reasons I make the pilgrimage each October to the Mecca of Bayside! Great friends that all share the common bond, regardless of where we caught the fever!
