I had a long time girlfriend in Dallas and used to buff at Engine 17. They had a enlarged photo hanging on their kitchen wall of a horse-drawn steam pumper responding out of their quarters. The members had no idea who was in the photo and were delighted when I informed them it was Bronx Engine Company 69 running west on East 233rd Street next to Woodlawn Cemetery, circa 1900. (You probably all have seen that photo.) I got a free meal and made some good friends for providing that info.
