Fairfield CT Working Fire- 5/20

The Fairfield Fire Department operated at a working structure fire at Parish Court Elderly Housing complex at 175 Warde Terrace.  Rescue was made of an elderly gentleman who was found unconscious; he is hospitalized with third degree burns.  He is in the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital.  The fire was in the living room of his apartment and he was found on the kitchen floor.  Approximately 15 residents were evacuated from their units.  Bridgeport Fire Department relocated one engine and one ladder to Fairfield for coverage.

Unfortunately, the man rescued died the next day as a result of his burns.  Early investigation shows the cause of the fire to be careless smoking which ignited a mattress.  The victim went to the kitchen to get an extinguisher instead of leaving the apartment.
