On Sunday, August 20th at approximately 6:30a, the Farmingdale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire with people trapped on Prospect St. Chief of Department Tortoso [9201] was quickly on scene and transmitted a Signal 10 with heavy fire out the rear of the house and all occupants out of the house. Notified on the initial alarm for a dual response engine, South Farmingdale Engine 972 quickly arrived on scene and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. With heavy fire found on the 2nd floor and attic, the alarm was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm. At least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire on all floors. Due to extensive overhaul, the alarm ultimately reached a 4th alarm bringing crews from Bethpage, Plainview, North Amityville, Amityville, Levittown, North Massapequa, Syosset, Westbury, Jericho, Seaford, Melville, and Deer Park to the scene. 2 firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Text courtesy Over the Edge Photography.
