A fire took the life of a man at 131 Cooks Rd. Farmville, Va. on May 22, 2020. The call was dispatched at 2342 hours and the first engine arrived at 2350 hours finding a brick and frame structure well involved in fire. Fire was showing out every window except on the # 3 side. Fire was rapidly knocked down with a blitzfire and two handlines and crews pushed in finding a body in the living room. Extinguishment went on for the next 4 hours as fire spread into the basement and attic as well as voids. Collapse of the floor in some areas kept firefighters from gaining access to those parts of the structure. The Randolph District FD was assisted by the Farmville FD, Cumberland FD, Hampden Sydney FD and the Dillwyn FD for their air unit. The final unit cleared the scene at 0740 hrs. May 23, 2020.
