Battalion Chief died as the result of injuries he received on April 29, 1947. He was Captain of Engine 59 at the time of injury. While fighting a four-alarm fire at Lenox Avenue and West 133rd Street he was overcome by lacquer fumes. He was promoted to Chief and assigned to the Fire College in 1948. He was awarded the James Gordon Bennett Medal along with the Dr. Harry M. Archer Medal in 1936 and the Walter Scott Medal in 1939. (From "The Last Alarm" by Boucher, Urbanowicz & Melahn, 2007).
