When I came on the FDNY in Jan. 1973 the 5th Battalion was still active. Many of the Chiefs were experts in Loft Buildings and had input in a Firefighting Procedures Manual on Loft Buildings, along with the captain of L-8 Silvia Deloso. My 1st unit in the FDNY Eng. 27 on Franklyn St. was in Batt. 5 at one point in time. Engine 27 was closed in 1975 after the NYC Financial Crisis and the layoffs of over 700 FDNY Firemen. For a short time, Super Pumper Satellite 1 was quartered and maned by the members of Engine 27. Capt. Bob Rainey E-26 FDNY Retired
