The new FDNY Fireboat "343" is currently in dry dock in New London, Ct (about 100 miles north east of New York City). It is located at Thames Shipyard where it is expected to be there until Thursday or Friday (4/21 or 4/22).

I might have missed it, but does anyone know why it is there ?

Any idea what the problem is?  It's already had a major problem with a pump.  Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come!

I was told that it had to go in a its first year check, but from the day it arrived in NYC there seemed to have a problem.

I just read this on another site, and somebody says repainting the bottom and applying some non skid to the decking. Somebody else says there has been problems with the electronic equipment.

I just drove over to see the 343 in New London ( I live twelve miles away).  She is there high and dry in a drydock.  Even though the security guard was originally from Brooklyn, like me, there was no indication that he wanted me to look any further.  He verified painting the hull below the waterline but did not offer any other info such as how long it will be there.

"Ratpac" on this site is a New London, Ct Firefighter. They went over with the rig the other day and he was told it is supposed to head back to NYC Thursday or Friday of this week. (4/21 or 4/22).

Since the "343" is out of service at Marine 1,  does the John D. McKeon go back into service as Marine1?

Believe I saw the 343 back at her berth on 5/1.  If it was the 343, it was Firefighter II.
