FDNY captain busted in steroid, ecstasy seizure: State Police

Muhammad S. Iftikhar, 43, assigned to Engine Co. 282 in Borough Park, Brooklyn, was collared Feb. 8 following the execution of a search warrant at his Goshen home by state Troopers, Homeland Security and US Postal Inspection Service investigators, officials said.
Probers seized over 50 grams of anabolic steroids, and over 20 grams of ecstasy, or MDMA, the State Police said.
“It was a six-month investigation,” said Trooper spokesman Beau Duffy. He would not elaborate on the scope of the probe or what sparked it.
The FDNY hit Iftikhar with a maximum 28-day suspension without pay. He will be restricted from field duty at the completion of the suspension, said spokesman Jim Long.
The 16-year FDNY veteran was promoted to lieutenant in July 2013, and then to captain in 2018, public records show. Iftikhar’s total pay last year was $218,000, according to seethroughny.net.
Iftikhar was in line to rise higher in the FDNY.
He passed a Civil Service test for promotion to battalion chief, and ranked No. 120 of 194 eligible candidates.
The captain was slapped with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance and an hallucinogenic substance with intent to sell, authorities said. He was arraigned at the court in Goshen released on his own recognizance.
Maria Younis, 39, was also arrested at the residence, the state police said. She was issued a ticket for 7th degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Homeland Security and US Postal investigators declined to comment.
