Fireman Barker died of the injuries he sustained after having fallen from a ladder. Fireman Barker was detailed to the LaGuardia Airport Crash Truck. He was asked to get an old Company Journal in the attic. While descending a straight ladder he lost his grip and fell 30 feet into the basement.
Fireman Harold A. Barker of Rescue 2 was detailed to the Airport Crash Unit located at LaGuardia Field. He was climbing down a ladder to open a door for the 14th Division Chief who was on his rounds. Losing his grip, he slipped and fell fifteen feet to the basement floor. The firehouse was located between Hangers 3 and 5 with the quarters being situated twenty-five feet above the ground.
