A rapidly spreading three-alarm fire in a five-story brick tenement too the lives of three people, and forced many other to jump from windows to the street. The three who died included Fireman McManus, who was off-duty and lived in the building. He was attempting to rescue his mother and sister, but they didn't make it out of the building. Their bodies were found lying in a hallway after the fire was extinguished.
