FDNY Fire Service Line of Duty Death
April 3, 1938 - LODD
Lieutenant Thomas Meehan, 56
Engine 9
FDNY. Manhattan, New York
A three-alarm fire involved an irregular shaped, two-story stable 238 Cherry Street, with 131 horses trapped inside. Lieutenant Meehan was climbing a ladder to the roof and was killed when an explosion caused a wall to collapse, knocking him from the ladder. Several other firefighters were seriously injured.
RIP. Never forget.
