I had the honor of working as a Lieutenant in FDNY Tower Ladder 21, when Rescue 1 was quarters with TL-21 & E-34. There firehouse on W. 43 St. was destroyed in a 10th alarm fire and so they were temporarily quartered with us. Lt. Jim Curran R-1 and many of the other Rescue 1 members became friends, and we had many happy hours talking and joking with each other. I had enough experience as a firefighter that from time to time I worked a tour or so in Rescue 1 as a Lieutenant. I always wanted to be a Rescue firefighter, so this was a great honor to me. As I watch this video, I am struck by the large number of my friends from Rescue 1 are no longer with us, many from the Attack on America on 9/11/01 and still more as a result of the effects of exposure to the toxins at the World Trade Center site. Great men and great firefighters, the best of the best, on 9/11 and many other days I will remember them and "the good fires and the good times" we had together. Heaven has a great collection of firefighters truly including my friends & brothers from Rescue 1. I'm Blessed to have known them. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired.
