2.5 SUMMER BOAT PROGRAM
Marine Operations Summer Boat Program will be in service as of 0700 hours, Monday, April 29, 2019 as follows:
Marine 3, based at Kingsborough College, will cover the South shores of Brooklyn and Queens, and monitor
the Queens radio frequency.
Marine 4, based at the Fort Totten, will cover the North shore of Queens and the South shore of the Bronx,
and monitor the Bronx radio frequency.
Marine 8, based at Atlantis Marina, will cover Staten Island, and monitor the Staten Island radio frequency.
These boats will be in service daily from 0700 to 2400 hours and are operated by an Officer and two CFR certified
firefighters from Marine Operations. They will operate on the Borough Radio frequency indicated above, as well as
Channel 6B on the 800 MHz radio. These 33 foot SAFE Boats are equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump, 25 gallons
of Universal Gold AR-AFFF (Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foam), generator, de-watering pumps,
FLIR Infrared Systems and basic Haz-Mat detection equipment in addition to standard water rescue equipment.
These boats are an excellent water source for fires in remote areas near the waterfront. The boats should also be
used to ensure the safety of members operating on piers or near the water. They can also be used to communicate
with NYPD Harbor Units and NYPD Aviation, the US Coast Guard and other vessels via their Marine VHF radio for
water rescues, dive ops, boaters in distress, and/or reports of drowning and other medical emergencies.

2.6 SEASONAL BOAT PROGRAM RECRUITMENT
Marine Operations is currently accepting applications for Lieutenants and Firefighters for the 2020 Seasonal Boat Program. Schedule hours are 0700 ? 2400 hours, one tour on / two tours off. Detail begins April 18, 2020 and ends November 2, 2020. Members typically respond and operate at marina/boat/brush fires, water rescue, dewatering operations, medical emergencies, vessel collisions as well as other marine emergencies. Members can also be involved in multiple interagency joint operations and regional responses. Applicants must be Firefighter 1st Grade, have current CFR status, general knowledge of the USCG Navigation Rules and the ability to independently operate a vessel 33' in length. In addition to the above, it is recommended but not required that members have a current USCG OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel) license or considerable maritime experience (could include USCG, commercial maritime and/or engineer background, etc.) Members who are interested in applying can download the application form on the FDNY Intranet, listed under Fire Admin Forms: "Marine Detail Seasonal Boat Program Application".
Application form must be complete, endorsed and then faxed to Marine RRC Operations at (718) 281-3885, Attn: Lt. John Murray. Applicants will receive confirmation via personal email that application was received. All applicants will undergo a thorough screening process which includes an interview, safe navigation exam, and hands-on boat operation assessment. Proof of all relevant certifications must be produced at time of interview. Members are required to bring contact information from three active duty officers for reference at the interview. Applications will be accepted until March 10th. Interview and testing are scheduled to start March 1st, weather permitting. Applicants will be notified of interview date and time via member?s phone number submitted on application form. Selected members are advised, in the event of an emergency, Marine Operations reserves the right to recall members of the Marine Seasonal Boat Program at any time based upon the needs of the Department and Marine Operations.
