Terminated FF can certainly claim sex discrimination regardless of gender of chiefs. Just because the chief is female does not get the department and city off the hook for legal action. Fire departments are easy targets for lawyers. Even this department is still predominately male and it will be argued that male-dominated policies, training and supervison were responsible for poor performance. It will be argued that all firefighters, even males close to retirement, might not be able to meet entrance requirements, etc, etc, etc. The union may even back her and help her get her job back - with lost pay. There is, unfortunately, no sanity in our systems today. I am glad the chief upheld standards and took action. Glad the city backed her. I am skeptical that this is over.
