Remember DC Vinny Dunn's rule....no more than 3 FFs on a Fire Escape landing....also a few other thoughts regarding FEs when getting a drop ladder down from ground level always try to stand underneath the FE so if the drop ladder comes out of the rails it will fall away for you not on you....FEs on a frame bldg are more dangerous than on a brick bldg since a FE on a frame bldg can pull the entire wall out bringing the entire FE down.....never let an Aerial or a Bucket bang down on a FE railing......anybody else got something ?

I remember an incident that happened in Boston maybe in the 1980s.

A Boston Globe newspaper photographer had captured a mother and her child waiting on a fire escape to be rescued and that fire escape had failed. The picture showed the mother and child falling in mid air. I think that picture was later a front page photo of a Fire Engineering Magazine issue.

I believe that the aerial ladder had been placed directly on the top railing of that fire escape, which caused it to collapse.

I tried to find that picture on the internet or details about it but I couldn't locate anything.

I remember the job, I think the photographer was Stanley Foreman, won the Pulitizer. Will also look for more info.

I believe the third and fourth pictures down the list are from that fire. In fact I think the fourth down is actually it. I may have been wrong when I said it was a mother and a child. Maybe two kids instead.

But as pointed out earlier by Chief JK, something to consider. These pictures are proof of what can happen.
