The past few times the Board of the Fireboat FIREFIGHTER Museum was down at the Fighter, we looked at the boat and the Bell was missing, Its a good size bell with a rope attached to the clanger. it is the original from 1938. We saw it on the fighter when it was in service as marine 9 in Statin island. We talked about finding out who had the bell and getting it back. No one really pushed the issue, too many other things on the burners.
Someone said it was being held for save keeping till the boat was ready to be a museum and to see who was getting the boat.
So very recently the board was at the navy yard, and as my Father In Law would say "Lo and behold" what do we see, The Bell, all shined up and mounted to the wheelhouse where it belongs. We just smiled.
Thank You so much to whoever mounted it. It did not go unnoticed.
