FIVE FF ENGINES.

Basically unless things have been updated ......the GP 2 ENGs start the tour w/5 FFs ......GP 2 if manpower Citywide is high enough has 5 FFs then GP 3 if Citywide manpower permits.....the chances of GP 3 getting 5 is usually slim but this is the order.....so in essence the GP2 ENGs would be the last to lose the Fifth FF to a detail after the start of the tour.

Comparing the new and old Groups 2 and 3, Group 2 went from 11 to 10 engines and Group 3 went from 49 to 51 engines. Four companies went from Group 3 to 2 (E-50, 158, 308, 236), one company went from Group 4 to 2 (E-156), and six companies went from Group 2 to 3 (E-69, 92, 75, 235, 298, 248). Last February, the NY Daily News reported Engines 65, 42, 158, 283, and 324 would be getting a fifth firefighter (http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/exclusive-fdny-companies-add-firefighter-article-1.2526155). Does anyone know if this is still in effect? The article also says that "the FDNY can add five firefighters to engine companies throughout the city each February until 2019 at a cost of $21 million". Is this going to be happening again this February? The 5 companies from last year were half of the current Group 2 so I would guess that this February (if the agreement is still in effect) they would add the fifth firefighter to the remaining 5 companies in Group 2. This would mean the department would be operating at staffing Level B. I believe the department is currently on Level C.

FDNY793727 Thanks for posting the link to AUC 287 to help w/the explanation of a cryptic Circular ......the problem w/all of this is that once a tour starts & there are some jobs & FFs get hurt the 5th FF (starting in reverse order) gets detailed to fill a spot.....when i was the CPt of ENG*275 (prior to the organization of LAD*133) we were the last ENG in QNS to give up the 5th FF but many tours we never finished w/5....it is better to start a tour w/5 rather than 4 but there should be provisions to keep the designated Units properly manned.

As of today the 7 Squads have 5th man as well as the 4 HazTech Engines, now there are 10 regular engines that have the 5th man. The order of losing 5th man after tour starts most likely starts with the 10 regular engines then HazTechs and if necessary the squads may go down to 4. Depending on location of detail it probably would come from closest 5th man regular engine.
