This is from the New Haven Independent, as I'm sure we all remember the issues in New Haven regarding promotions, "Ricci vs. Desteffano" aka New Haven 20 that went all the way to the Supreme Court. Check out some of the comments, the asst drillmaster who had to take the flag down, his brother also NHFD was the only Latino that was part of the New Haven 20. Lt Tinney who complained about the flag, sued the city after the city was ordered by the Supreme Court to certify the promotion list saying it was racially bias to blacks (city threw out list in fear black would sue because
none scored high enough for immediate promotion but Supreme Court ruled list didn't violate anything and had to be certified and back pay was ordered) he also sued the union when the union decided to side with the Nh20 at the beginning of the law suit and demand that the city certify the list saying the union was a racist organization. It is sad that in 2014 some individuals have to make everything about race, stuff like this makes the work place miserable. I am a firm believer that MERIT MATTERS and race should play no role in promotions or hiring. Best man gets the job, some have to wake up and see that not everything is racist and sometimes no matter how hard you study, there might be someone who is smarter than you.
Here is the link showing a little more history between the two family's
