Nice stuff to have.  Hope it is never used.

In a storm as destructive as Sandy, would this apparatus and equipment make a difference?

Is this the same modular unit they purchased last year, I believe with 5000 GPM or is this another unit of the same basic design?  As Mack said, it really doesn't seem like a couple of units like this can make much of a difference during a major event like Sandy.  Certainly nice to get the money but it would seem like it could be used more effectively.

These are the ones bought a year ago. I think they were bought more incase of an event like 9/11 When they had to use the boats. They were supposed to be spread out through the city.

Hytrans Systems units are intended to replace damaged city water mains in major catastrophes and can be used in large scale dewatering operations e.g. the PATH tunnel. Special Operations Command has three 2900 GPM units, one on a lift truck, two skid mounted kept at the Shops and a firehouse in Staten Island.
See WNYF, 2nd/2013, p. 37, ?FDNY Assists with Odd Job in the PATH Tubes,? by BC Joseph R. Downey which describes use of this equipment at several sites after Hurricane Sandy.

Makes Sense that Primary Mission would be to provide Service in place of damaged Water Mains.
But, w/ 2 on skids & 1 on Lift Truck, seems More likely that they'll wind up @ The Rock,
rather than out in the Boro's.

Thanks Tom for posting those pictures. That is the kind of equipment we don't get to see too often.
