Brush fire from just outside Denver on Tuesday. 2 Alarms were dispatched on this with the second remaining in staging. A Structure Protection Group was also dispatched. One home had to be evacuated. Information from 5280fire.com.
At 14:51 on July 12th, 2022 West Metro Fire Rescue was dispatched for a brush fire in the area of Hwy. 285 southbound and Hwy. 8 westbound near Mount Lindo. At 14:57 Engine 9 reported a significant smoke header going up Turkey Creek from Hwy. 285, requested the Douglas County OEM Type 2 helicopter and rebalanced the call for a Large Brush Fire Response. Engine 9 arrived in the area, established Snow Creek Command, and began hiking into the fire with SAM 2 as the lookout. At 15:08, Snow Creek Command requested a 2nd alarm on the large brush fire response and designated staging at Station 11. District 1 self-assigned as Staging Manager at Station 11 with District 2 in command. At 15:24 command sized up a 1-acre fire with group tree torching, moderate spread potential, utilizing Helicopter 5TA for suppression efforts, and advised no further needs. A drone was spotted by command and was confirmed to not be flown by any operations personnel. A structure protection group was ordered to protect houses in the vicinity of the fire but was released when the fire had stabilized. There was a mandatory evacuation of one home near the top of the ridge and about 60 homes in the Willow Springs area that was put on pre-evac. The fire is estimated at 2 acres and the cause is under investigation.
