From Ctfire-ems (Willy D maybe able to add)
Few Winters ago in New Haven CT While under normal conditions we view white smoke as a good sign but in extreme cold don't be fooled. In New Haven a while back well before i was a buff they had a fire in the cove and the smoke was white looking as though they had a handle on the fire which was not the case at all. Info can be found on this fire on youtube fire house magazine and the weather channel. The weather channels story tells it the best on how the extreme cold effected the color of the smoke. So please bothers and sisters keep this info in the back of your mind in this cold snap since we our tought gray/ black smoke bad white smoke getting better or good the temp out side along with the wind may just present something totally different then what you have.
