We moved to Riverside CA in September of 1967. In early December, my wife woke me up around 8 AM and shouted at me, "there are mountains out there!!!!" First time we had seen them. After a round of Santa Ana winds, if you were in a relatively flat area, around 4PM you could see a wall of smog marching in from the west. It was eerie.
