At 02:03 on July 12th, 2022 West Metro Fire Rescue responded to a possible structure fire in the 11500 block of W. 16th Ave. in Lakewood. Jeffcom advised of multiple callers reporting a fully involved structure. Engine 2 arrived to a fully involved large residential under construction, established their own water supply at W. 16th Ave. and Robb St. and started fire attack with the deck gun in the defensive strategy. Tower 2 arrived and assisted with fire attack and structure protection. Engine 2 advised of power lines burned and down and requested Xcel to the scene. Engine 3 arrived and secured a water supply at Colfax Ave. and Routt St. and deployed their deck gun for fire attack for structure protection with Medic 2. District 1 arrived and assumed command on the Alpha side and assigned Medic 5 with medical. Command requested a 2nd alarm at 02:24. Engine 6 assisted with fire attack and Engine 5 established another water supply at Simms St. and W. 16th Ave. and supplied Tower 8 with water. Crews worked heavy fire before getting the fire under control at 02:46 but crews worked on hot spots and the investigation early into the morning. The fire destroyed at least three townhome units under construction. Several nearby homes were evacuated for safety. One nearby home ignited due to heat exposure from the main fire and residents were able to get out. No injuries were reported. Additional information provided by West Metro Fire Rescue.
