I've been to Bradenton a few times. I noticed that with this job, the first and only truck company onscene was assigned on the second alarm. Also saw that an engine was sent in to vent and search. I know that across the country, many departments use engines as the FAST company - down there do the engines preform the same duties as trucks?

Yes, in Manatee County engine companies perform engine, ladder and rescue functions. All Firefighters are trained to handle every aspect of the job. Not every department has ladder apparatus. Ladder apparatus responds to such districts via mutual aid if the fire is in a multi story structure.
