Incident Location: 7 Denise Street
At about 17:35 on August 5, 2023 Massapequa Fire Department Third Assistant Chief McCaffrey was responding to a rescue call when he noticed smoke coming from the eaves of a two story split level home on Denise Street. He advised his dispatcher to alert the department for a house fire and would give further details after investigating. Chief McCaffrey made entry into the home, and found that nobody was home and located fire in the basement which led to the transmission of a working fire. Chief of Department Monjardo arrived and took command of the scene. Engine 6314 was first due and dropped two lines at the house and went fire to hydrant. The first line was operated by the crews of 6314, the second was operated by the crew from Engine 6315. Ladder 632 was the first Ladder on scene and set up in front of the house, Ladder 636 arrived shortly after and both crews began laddering, searching and venting the home. All searches were negative. Engine 631 arrived and that crew stretched a third line that did not go into operation. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes with slight extension to the second floor. Amityville Ladder 1-1-5 who was requested as a working truck set up behind 632 and that crew assisted in opening the eaves to check for extension. Additional mutual aid to the scene was provided by the South Farmingdale Fire Department for a FAST Truck and the Bethpage Fire Department for an additional Ladder. There was one minor injury to a firefighter and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal. (TEXT CREDIT ZONE2PHOTO).
