Looks like a little urban renewal work since the buildings were vacant and abandoned!  No wonder they went into a defensive mode.

Great video of the fire - really couldn't see too much of the FD activity - we use to have a lot of fires like that in NYC - particularly certain areas of da Bronx and Brooklyn
