Crews battle fire in New Britain on Sunday
NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -
Crews battled a large fire on Sunday afternoon in downtown New Britain.
A fire captain told Channel 3 that crews were en route to a medical call originally, but rerouted to a fire at 67 Arch Street just before 3 p.m.
New Britain Fire Captain Michael Berry said all companies pitched in to help extinguish the fire which was ongoing for quite some time as the fire burned through the walls.
Captain Berry said the fire damaged the neighboring buildings to the left and right. Mutual aid was called to assist knock down the fire, Berry said.
Captain Michael Berry said it was unknown if the residents can return to the neighboring buildings.
Captain Berry said that the windy conditions made fighting the fire more difficult but said the downtown location of the fire proved to be of some relief as the street is wide enough for the firetrucks.
No one was injured, the captain said.
