Assistant Chief Paul Miano (Formerly the Acting Chief of EMS and before that the Chief of Field Services) has been officially appointed by Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker as the new Chief of EMS Operations.

Chief Miano has served the Department for 26 years, joining the department in 1999, being an EMT in Brooklyn. He later became one of the first rescue paramedics before in 2008 being promoted to Lieutenant in Manhattan.

In 2011 he returned to HAZTAC and became a member of NYTF-1 and the FDNY SOC TF.

In 2013 he was promoted to Captain, but just a year later he was back at HAZTAC, where he restructured it's capabilities and programs, and developing the Marine Medic program. He also lead the FDNY Response to Ebola.

In 2015 he was promoted to Deputy Chief, now supervising both the Bronx and SOC, during this time he developed the EMS component of the Mass Casualty Rescue Task Force

In 2019 he was promoted to Division Chief, where he briefly oversaw Brooklyn North before being reassigned to the Operations Center during COVID-19. In March of 2020 he was promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief and served as the Borough Commander for Brooklyn and Staten Island.

In 2023 he was promoted to Assistant Chief and assigned as the Chief of Field Services (aka Car 5B)
