During these downward economic times we see firehouse closings, threats of closings, temporary shutdowns and layoffs. Here's some good news:

On Tuesday August 3rd at 1000 hrs. the City of Suffolk Va. will be opening a new additional firehouse. It will be a 1 story, 3 bay drive-through that will house Engine 6, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Training & Admin. Ladder 6 will be staffed and housed at a later date. Congratulations Suffolk FD !!!

Good news,Dean.
Nashville Fire is hiring, apparently they will hire around 30 in Sept and another group around Nov. That the rumor. No age limit,so for those retired, come on down to the South, LOL.

A new firehouse opening. We just don't hear that much anymore. Thanks Dean for that info. And Rob, thanks for the info on Nashville. Do you think I have a chance ? 61 years old, just need to drop about a hundred pounds. Actually, I know of a guy here in Connecticut that retired as a Deputy Chief (I think Waterbury, and went on the job as a new Probie in Norwalk (?). I think he also has a son on the job somewhere too). They say the guy is in GREAT SHAPE.
But also, anybody whose looking to get on the job, should be putting in their application. Make sure they are in Great Shape and maybe hit a few of those Firefighter Entrance Study Guides. Good luck to all those that are serious about it.
