Hello. I'm trying to figure out who the Captain of 65 Engine was in 1999. Thanks for any help you can provide me with.

Thank you. Is he a member of this site? I live in Detroit, so I'm not really sure exactly how this site works. However I do know that FDNY is where I always looked for inspiration when I was on the job. Thanks for the response.

He is the founder creator and brains behind this wonderful site
This site has some great information in regards to FDNY
But in regards to you’re question he might have the best answer or least point you in the right direction. He was a member of that company before being promoted.
Good chance he will see this post

WOW! Thank you. Hopefully it works out. I just did one with Engine 13 member Don Blaskovich with the majority of the effort going to Captain Serra and Ladder 20

Thanks Brad, "Signal73", for helping one of our newest members to this site, "Hkkid".

You're right Brad.

"Hkkid", try to contact Lt Bendick, the owner of this site. You might try to reach him through a personnel message on this site at "tbendick". I do know he is a very busy guy through.

I don't think Lt Bendick was on the job then though. I believe he was working with EMS in 1999. But he still might be able to help.

Meantime, I will also contact Lt Bendick regarding your question through a text message.

Thank you as well, "Lebby". Lebby also has a wealth of knowledge of the FDNY. He currently works with the FDNY/EMS

"Hkkid" We welcome aboard. I can assure you that if your interest is in the FDNY, you've certainly come to the right place.

Seems to be a lot of potential Captain's from this company. I've never seen so many possibilities in my searching. Very confusing to me. Thanks for your help.

According to Lt Bendick, former Engine 65, at this time he does not know who was the Captain of E 65 in 1999.

I guess Tommy was there around 2003 when Capt Murtagh was the boss.

I’m not sure exactly when this photo was taken. It comes from the book ”The Bravest.” I believe they were taken around 1998/1999. Capt. Rotanz is in the photo as well as a Captain McQueen. Hope this helps. Forgot to say welcome.

Ok thanks. At this point I don't think 65 had a captain. Or at least not someone that was willing to stick around.

The photo in the book was taken when Engine 65 celebrated its Centennial in 1998. Capt. George McQueen handed over the reigns to Capt. Richard Rotanz right before then. Rotanz retired in 2002 and Capt. Murtagh manned the ship from then until he retired in 2019 making him the longest serving Captain of Engine 65.
