NYPD detective shot in Harlem

A Queens detective was shot chasing a perp in a Harlem subway station this afternoon -- and then managed to still fire back despite being wounded, killing the suspect, law-enforcement sources said.
The plainclothes officer, who was working on a team of five including a sergeant and three other detectives with in the Queen's Violent Felony Squad, was shot once in the left arm and rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, officials said. He is expected to survive, they said. But "another foot over, and it would have been in the middle of his chest,'' one source said.
Michael McBride, who was wanted by cops for the brutal shooting of a 25-year-old woman in the Rockaways yesterday, was shot dead today in an exchange with cops.
The cop was identified by sources as 21-year NYPD veteran Kevin Herlighy, formerly of the Brooklyn South Warrant Squad.
Sources said Herlighy and the other cops were chasing Michael McBride, 52, of Queens, who was being sought in the brutal shooting of a 25-year-old woman in the Rockaways yesterday.
McBride shot first his weapon, sources said, nailing Herlighy. The wounded officer then shot McBride, who took a bullet to the chest, authorities said. McBride was declared dead at the scene, sources said. The perp's gun was recovered, sources said.
The shooting occurred at 4:15 p.m. in the station at St. Nicholas Avenue and West 145th Street.
The young woman injured in yesterday's shooting, Shante Blowden was the daughter of the Blowden's ex-girlfriend.
She was shot once in the head, and the bullet is still lodged there, sources said. But miraculously, she survived and is talking, the sources added.
Herlighy is married with kids and lives on Long Island, sources said.
