Came across this story in tonights paper here in Ireland....amazing story
A 911 emergency team from Oklahoma are to be honoured this week for their work in helping a woman over 4,000 miles away - in Dublin. The Irish Examiner reports that the woman, who was pregnant and suicidal, called the Oklahoma 911 dispatch on March 2 on their non-emergency line. US telecommunications company AT&T was able to trace her, and alert garda?.
Officers managed to locate the woman through her phone number and eventually discovered her with a serious stab wound. "She was suicidal, had a gun and said she was going to kill herself," David Shupe, director of 911 services in Oklahoma told ABC News. "Her biggest concern was making sure someone was contacted so her child would be OK.
"She said repeatedly she was trying to get out of the life of prostitution."
Mr Shupe said he had no idea how the woman got the number for emergency services in Oklahoma. Mr Shupe said: "This was a pretty interesting piece of work from our perspective. "We don?t typically get involved with overseas departments. It was pretty innovative how the supervisor handled it." The dispatchers who worked so hard to save the woman?s life are to be rewarded for their efforts in a ceremony this week.
