Late on the night of Monday, August 21st, 2023, the Port Washington Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic alarm at a home on Lillian Court in Sands Point. As units were on the way they were advised by Nassau County Fire Communications that a direct call was received from the residence reporting a dryer fire at the location. When firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed the dryer fire in the basement of the home and found that it was beginning to extend. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. Firefighters stretched and operated two hand lines. All occupants made it out of the home safely – pets included. One firefighter was transported from the scene to an area hospital with a minor head injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Text courtesy K2M Photography.
