Tom,
Thanks for taking the time to breakdown the assignments. Most interesting to see that in a battalion perspective.

Was there any reason why all probie's went to Eng Co's and none to Trucks?

Cassano stated that all prior emt's and medics will be utilized into engines because of their medical background.

Engines will probably be utilized & integrated more into EMS runs, the writing is on the wall. Additionally, it was mentioned in the Admins long range plan a few years ago. CFR-D is just the beginning.

Monitor Bostom and Chicago. 75%+ of all runs are EMS runs, even using truck companies for first responder runs. One of CFD busiest co's was E-88 with a ton of EMS runs and few fire runs. They are a SW side house. FDNY better get used to CFR runs.

FDNY Engines are quite accustomed to EMS.

Most departments in Washington DC metro area run ALS engines.  At least one firefighter is paramedic level (usually officer too) and engines carry all meds and equipment found on ALS medic units.  It seems to work well.  Companies can immediately diagnose and begin treatment -  and then go back in service when an ALS or BLS unit arrives.  The departments also run the medic units so there is backup capabilities.  This system offers career advancement and OT.  Medics usually run with a lieutenant as the ALS paramedic and the pay level is advanced for the firefighters who are paramedic qualified.  Departments rotate firefighters between engine and medic.
