^^^ I am not really liking the individual apparatus front doors ....a larger single door IMHO would be better....when 209/102s new FH was built on Bedford Ave in the mid '60s it originally had a large double door for the E&T but after repeated down time repairing it due to the weight they converted it to 2 smaller individual doors...that was back in the '60s so i would think that today a more state of the art lighter door & or a better working motor for a large single door would be available....on the subject of the new R*2 FH i am disappointed in the FH identification on the front of the FH but again maybe it's just me ? ....  (my thing)... http://nycfire.net/forums/index.php/topic,56501.msg179249.html#msg179249

New home box for Rescue 2: Brooklyn 1644
Yes Box 1644 Howard Ave & Sterling Place one of the busiest BKLYN Boxes Fire & false alarm wise back in the '60s / 70s ....most of the surrounding original bldgs have burned down or been destroyed & replaced with newer construction..... Originally 1644 was the old cast iron Box but in more recent times had been replaced ... there was a more recent google shot of the Box intersection that in the google photo the newer present Box looked pretty much destroyed .... when we went there Sunday 11-3-19 the box was gone entirely ....just a concrete patch on the ground where it had been ?....i have an old cardboard assignment card of 1644....many crossouts / changes due to 176 being organized ...123 moving & 232 being disbanded ... etc.

I will always remember knocking on the door at the quarters of then, Rescue 2 and Engine Co 210 on Carlton Ave in Brooklyn. That was my first introduction to the FDNY after being invited there by a member of Engine 210.

That was over 50 years ago in the Summer of 1968. The bells were ringing inside that firehouse with no voice alarm or computers back then.

As I was invited in, the guys were cleaning off the tools from the night before. I don't think anybody had any idea that the historic FDNY War Years were about to begin. But what followed was the busiest time in the history of the FDNY for fires.

I also didn't know that walking into that firehouse, meeting those guys, and watching them work, would change my life forever. But not only "my life", but the lives of so many others who later joined me to watch what those guys do best. That of course put out fires.

It's hard to explain but for me, seeing this new firehouse open will be kind of a bitter/sweet thing because I sure did appreciate that old firehouse that is still the quarters of Engine Co 210. I guess that Carlton Ave firehouse will ALWAYS be kind of special to me.

I noticed the same thing. I like how the wording is embossed into the stone (concrete?) But with everything the same color it really doesn't stand out. If they put gold lettering inside the embossing it would look great!

As far as the doors go, I agree, I think one large doors better and certainly one listing to run into when you're are in a hurry.

Rescue 2 ran from Engine 222 temporarily while their floor was redone.
My notes say it was in the early 1990's but Engine 210 was in temporary quarters in 2001.
Does anyone recall when and for how long?

R*2  was in w/222 for a short time late '80s or early '90s  while the Bergen St FH floor only was being redone....not sure when 210 had their whole FH on Carlton Ave re done.

Same problem exits over at E168/EMS B23, or it did when I was there. The up/down, up/down wore the cables and the motors out quickly on the double bay single doors.

Last night (Sunday Nov 3, 2019) the members of Rescue Co 2 invited many of the current and retired members, along with their families and friends, dispatchers, etc to a farewell party and closing of their current firehouse to their new quarters, which will officially take place on Monday morning, Nov 11, 2019 at 0900 hours. Some retired members who are now living as far away as Florida came up to be a part of this historic moment within the FDNY.

According to Rescue Co 2 Capt Flaherty, during the next week the members plan to remove all the photos, unit citations, everything, that has been a part of that firehouse to their new quarters for it's official opening on Thursday, Nov 14th.

Willy D asked me to post these

THANK YOU VERY MUCH BRAD.

And Thank You to Retired Chief Jack Kleehaas, former firefighter of Rescue 2 in this quarters, and also the quarters shared with Engine Co 210 on Carlton Ave (Brooklyn) for inviting me to be a part of this Historic Event for the FDNY.

Of course Special Thanks to Captain Flaherty and the current members of Rescue Co 2 for holding this event and the dinner they provided to all the invited guest.

For me, Rescue Co 2, along with Engine Co 210, was what got me involved in the FDNY way back in the Summer of 1968. That moment would not only change my life, but the lives of so many others. Many who later became firefighters and fire officers throughout various cities and states. We owe it all to Rescue Co 2 and Engine Co 210.

**** Along with the invited guest was Chicago Battalion Chief Pat Maloney of Chicago's Special Operations Command. Chief Maloney is standing in front of Rescue 2 Captain Flaherty in the group photo (# 6 down) in front of the firehouse. Chief Maloney was also joined by his friend, a well known buff, Bill Regan from the Chicago area. Both frequently spent time with the members of FDNYs Rescue 2 ****.

I know that many of you probably know or recognize many of the individuals in these photos. I would like to point out that in the third photo down is Rescue 2s, Capt Flaherty (on the left) along with Retired B/C Jack Kleehaas, aka "68jk09", on the right, familiar to this site.

The fourth photo down, from left to right is former Chief of Department, Jim Leonard. Center is Warren Fuchs, retired FDNY Dispatcher, known as "The Voice of Brooklyn".
**** On the right is FDNY Dispatcher Bill Ladell, currently assigned to Field Comm driver with 49 years on the job.****
His number of years served will also go down in the history books, when he does retire.

The food, the deserts, the Brotherhood, the stories told, the members, the invited guest, all added up to make it ONE GREAT GOING AWAY PARTY, as the members begin their move to the new firehouse.

THANKS GUYs. Best wishes in your new home.

A few updates regarding the photos.

***** Invited guest, Chicago Battalion Chief Pat Maloney of Chicago FDs Special Operations Command in group photo standing in front of Rescue 2s Capt Flaherty ****
Chief Maloney was joined by his friend, Chicago Buff/Photographer Bill Regan, who was taking this picture at the time.

**** Also FDNY Dispatcher Bill Ladell, Field Comm Driver has "49" years on the job. Listening to him talk, sounds like he still Loves the Job. I asked him if he was going to retire at "50" years, he just said; "Maybe". If I remember correctly, only one other guy in the departments history holds that record.
