A fire heavily damaged a historic funeral home in Raleigh overnight. This came after rounds of severe storms struck the area with multiple calls for service for lightning strikes, and trees and power lines down.

A landmark in the Raleigh Black community burned early Tuesday. The former Lightner Funeral Home on Person Street went up in flames around 1 a.m. It wasn't clear whether the storms from Monday night were a cause of the fire.

Here's an early a.m. report on this morning's working fire in downtown Raleigh. Dispatched 1:09 a.m. as [call type goes here] at South Person Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for Engine 3 and Ladder 1. Upgraded to structure fire as units were en route.
Engine 3 first-arriving at a two+ story, single-family dwelling. Fire on first floor. Interior attack, with extended operations due to extension to attic and difficult "cut up" interior spaces. Battalion 2 in command, Battalion 3 in Division C (rear). Two sets of two additional engines requested over time (E10, E8) (E4, E5), as crews required relief.
Evacuation tones sounded at ~2:15 a.m. Aerial operations started at ~2:23 a.m. Fire under control at 2:45 a.m. Source for details is radio traffic.
