The UFA regretfully announces the WTC-related passing of retired
Firefighter Thomas “Smitty” Glenn Smith, Engine 224, which
occurred on March 26, 2026. Firefighter Thomas Smith was
appointed on June 1, 1983, and served the Department for nearly
21 years until his retirement on March 1, 2004.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Firefighter Thomas Smith for
his decades of dedicated service to the Department, and for his
unwavering commitment during the rescue and recovery at
Ground Zero. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
